Mike has never squatted a barbell in his entire life. So 4 weeks ago we started him off with just a few body-weight squats which he struggled with. Forward and reverse lunges were added over the subsequent days. Fast forward to today. Mike has to learn how to balance the barbell on his shoulders, squat back, and stand with weight. So how did he do?
He learned fast!
First he did 95 pounds, then 115, followed by 135 for 5 reps! Now that’s what I am talking about!
That is what good programming does. Allows the client to grow in confidence and muscular ability, so that when the time comes for barbell training, they are ready!!
